What is Shea butter?

  • Shea butter is a fat extracted from the nut of the African Shea tree (Vitellaria paradoxa). The differences between unrefined and refined Shea butter are the scent, color and benefits.  Unrefined Shea butter maintains its nutty scent, beige color and its healing properties.  Refined Shea butter has been chemically altered to remove Shea butters natural scent, is bleach white in color and retains only a small portion of its natural healing properties. The result of refinement is an odorless, white butter that may be aesthetically appealing, but lacks the true moisturizing, healing, and nutritive properties of true traditional Shea butter. It is widely used in cosmetics as a moisturizer, salve or lotion. Shea butter is edible and is used in food preparation in some African countries.

If my whipped Shea butter melts will it be spoiled?

  • No.  The melting point of the whipped Shea butter is ~ 76 to 78 degrees Fahrenheit (~ 24.4 to 25.6 degrees Celsius).  The melting will not affect the quality of the whipped butter as a great moisturizer, but the whipped consistency will change.  It will become more like a body balm.

Can babies use these products?

  • It depends.  I recommend newborns and infants use our unscented whipped Shea butter.  Babies and children 2 months and older can use the Original scented whipped Shea butter.  Both the Original scent and unscented whipped Shea can be used from head-to-toe.  Babies really don't need sugar scrub; their skin is already new and pure.  Babies and children 2 months and older can also use the lip balm original scent.  Newborns and infants can use the unscented whipped Shea butter as lip balm if needed.

What about Men?

  • Some benefits of whipped Shea butter for men are as follows:  1) whipped Shea butter will help to manage and maintain a well-conditioned beard and is packed with vital nutrients for healthy skin and hair. 2) It's an excellent aftershave. 3) A little goes a long way.
